The Secure Hash Algorithm 2 (SHA2) covers the four cryptological hash functions SHA-224, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512, which were standardized as successor by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in 2001. The NIST recommends replacing SHA1 hash functions by the SHA-2 family (SHA-224, SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512).
